Artist Statement:

Desire for an icon

Non-icons of violence and desire in the world of disappearing icons

The world of non-icons of violence and desire in a world of disappearing icons is what I draw.

The world I am drawing is like disappearing icons in a world of non-icons.

This is a work expressing that they each envy the other.

The materials that compose the work symbolize the disappearing icons, violence, and desire.

Each work has its own story.

It seems like a happy world drawn with sweet and vivid colors.

However, contrary to what is imagined, the included contents are not sweet.

1.Have become the world that monkey controls human as have been to universe because humans leave the earth if see movie "Planet Of The Apes"s.
And it was seen that was world of human past that people think here other planet instead of the earth, and appear the Statue of Liberty on movie end.
I am that emotion is felt that thing which thought "Statue of Liberty = icon" here, and believe that we are icon now disappears sometime.
World of human disappears in movie and there is no eternal thing as monkey sees the world that dominate, and saw desire which turn "Statue of Liberty (world of icon = humans)" to disappear.

▷ Desire for icon
My picture paints icons of violence and desire in the world that non-icon disappears.
Non-icons take out desire that each other envies each other and will become icon in icons and violence that disappear and state that is same by desire.
It seems like a happy world drawn with sweet and vivid colors.
However, contrary to what is imagined, the included contents are not sweet.


2. Witness Japan big earthquake ...
American Japan investigator Chalmers Jones designated Japan society 'developmental state' 30 odd years ago.
He thought that the country of this Japan society had been net work society which make means of exquisite development presenting strategic target, and controls to part that government and common people are microscopic effectively.
But, Japan because of enterprise (Tokyo electric power) profit logic Japanese japonica type system within great disaster disablement do. 
Political leadership is numbed within huge disaster outside expectation, and overcredulity for manual index hand which become well-set is raising more damage on the contrary.
Explosion of nuclear power plant should have taken special action in beginning justly because can be connected by large scale human ruin.
Gruesome repenting of one´s missing a chance.

▷Silent Spring
Desire of human makes human legend in the past.
Desire of human comes from shortage.
Human shortage material (DDT, nuclear energy) that consume environment and is new artificially by the convenience in order that is hot make and this everything is making human legend in the past.
The quiet spring may come as die as spoke writer "Rachel Carson" of "Silent Spring" that make aware of importance of environment.


작가노트

1.영화 “혹성탈출”을 보면 인간들이 지구를 떠나 우주에 갔다 왔더니 원숭이가 인간을 지배하는 세상이 되어 버린 것이다. 그리고 사람들은 여기가 지구가 아닌 다른 행성이라고 생각하고, 영화 막바지에 자유의 여신상을 등장시킴으로 과거 인간의 세계였다는 것을 보여 주었다.

나는 여기서 “자유의 여신상=아이콘”이라 생각했고, 지금 우리가 아이콘이라고 믿는 것들이 언잰가는 사라진다는 감정을 느끼게 된 것 이다. 영화에서 인간의 세상이 사라지고 원숭이가 지배하는 세상을 보면서 영원한 것은 없고, 사라질 “자유의 여신상(아이콘=인간들의 세상)”을 향한 욕망을 보았다.

▷아이콘을 향한 욕망

내 그림은 아이콘(icon)이 사라지는 세상에 폭력과 욕망의 논아이콘(non‐icon)들을 그린다.

사라져가는 아이콘들과 폭력과 욕망으로 똑같은 모습에 논아이콘들이 서로가 서로를 시기하며 아이콘이 되겠다는 욕망을 들어낸다, 달콤하고 비비드한 색깔로 행복한 세상일 것 같지만 그런 상상을 배신하듯이 그 속에 담긴 내용은 달콤하지 않다.

2. 일본 대지진을 보고...

미국의 일본연구자 찰머스 존슨은 30여년 전에 일본사회를 ‘발전국가(developmental state)’라고 명명했다. 그가 본 일본사회는 국가가 전략적 목표를 제시하고, 정부와 민간이 효과적으로 미세한 부분까지 조정해 정교한 발전의 방도를 만들어가는 네트워크사회였다고 생각했다.

그러나 일본은 기업(도쿄전력) 이익논리 때문에 일본형 시스템이 대재앙 속에서 무력화되고 있다. 예상 밖의 거대한 재앙 속에서 정치적 지도력이 마비되고, 잘 짜여진 매뉴얼 지침에 대한 맹신이 도리어 피해를 더욱 키우고 있다. 원전 폭발은 대규모 인간파멸로 이어질 수 있으므로 당연히 초기에 특단의 조치를 취했어야 했다. 그러나 리더십은 보이지 않고, 이미 시간을 허비해 통제불가능한 상황에서야 뒤늦게 인간특공대를 투입했다. 처참한 만시지탄(晩時之歎)이다.

▷봄의 침묵

인간의 욕망이 인간을 과거에 전설로 만든다.

인간의 욕망은 결핍에서 온다. 

인간은 결핍을 매우려고 환경를 소비하고 편의에 의해 인공적으로 새로운물질(DDT,원자력)을 만들고 이런 모든 것들이 인간을 과거에 전설로 만들고있다.

환경의 중요성을 일깨워준 “Silent Spring”의 저자 “레이첼 카슨”(Rachel Carson)말했듯 죽은 듯 고요한 봄이 올 것이다.
